update

I haven’t updated the loopPlay Games site yet, but I know some more php, enough to set up server accounts with mysql. Hopefully that will be coming soon. There’s really nothing there yet. Games, ironically enough, will be coming to the loopplay site last. I guess that’s what I get for being a top-down programmer.

I started my job, I ended up going with debian over osx since I don’t need photoshop for the job. Some of my friends were trying to tell me that gimp could do the job I usually need photoshop for. I thought it was pretty funny, I am more experienced with both… I do know what I need each of them for. (I use gimp for PNG manipulation of pixel-based images, the support is pretty good, but I use photoshop for website logos, the simplicity of layer styles and the quality vector support destroys gimp.)

I have no complaints so far about using debian; it seems to be running pretty well. I am used to ubuntu and I would say as far as ubuntu vs debian is concerned, debian is harder to set up for the new user, but when someone helps you through it, you end up with a much better understanding with linux as a whole. I haven’t really had many major problems in either ubuntu or debian, I would say if someone was trying to decide on a linux distro to install on their first machine, go with ubuntu. But if you have friends who use linux to help you if you run into any confusing problems, feel free to go with debian, but you probably will want to use their testing respositories.

What’s up and around

I recently got a job related to programming. It should be an interesting exercise, I’ll probably learn perl and python with it. I have to use linux or osx on the job, not sure which I will select yet. I am thinking that OSX might be the way to go, simply because I’d like to experiment with something new, as I’ve used linux and windows before.

By the way, I know some php and xhtml now. I set up a webpage: LoopPlay Games, there’s nothing there yet, but some day a long time from now I plan to put up an online gaming community there with multiplayer games. The site itself needs work, I’d like to have each page appear to the outsider as generic folders, not php function calls, but I’m still learning my php and server administration.

I really like playing with php and xhtml and mysql. I’m hoping to get a user account thing set up there some time in the next few months. I’ve been using a lot of ubuntu linux, and I’m really excited for the new version coming out, mainly because I seem to get random computer-halting memory leaks in my version for some reason, but also because the new gedit version looks sweet. ( Ubuntu dapper flight 4 ) ( gedit )

I have to say, I saw a video for XGL, it’s like some kind of amazing openGl windows manager by novell, it looks really awesome.
